I still exist!!

So right after I started neglecting my LJ for Tumblr (bad Rei), I moved! I just got internet in my apartment this morning, but I'm not complaining because the Time Warner guy told me the installation wait time is now up to six weeks. That would've been a very unpleasant first month of school.

So what have I been doing?

- Unpacking. I have certain priorities, which means my bookshelves were assembled before my kitchen table. ^^
- Finding nearby grocery stores, restaurants, etc. FYI, Gianni's Pizza is amazing.
- Reading. Went through Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows in three days. It's amazing what you can accomplish without TV or internet. I also finished What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew, which is a fabulous resource for anyone interested in the Victorian Era. By the way, I AM still working on Portrait of an Independent Genius. I hope to finish Chapter 7 before I start classes.
- Completing my assignments for IST 601, the library science intro class. I learned I'm completely out of practice at essay-writing. APA style? WHAT IS THAT?!
- Exploring SU. I loved Wells, and I certainly don't regret going there, but it's really nice having access to such a big campus. The buildings are amazing, especially the life sciences complex. The elevators talk, which is a little unsettling when you push a button and a voice not unlike Caprica Six's tells you you're going to the second floor.

And now I'm off on a pilgrimage to Target to finally buy a microwave!

The other day I was bored and weird so I made the Magnus Meme! All the awesomeness that is Helen Magnus, now in meme form! Rather than repost every one I've made so far, I'm just going to direct you to the appropriate tag at my Tumblr. Enjoy!

P.S. I haven't abandoned "Portrait of an Independent Genius," it's just progressing more slowly this month since I'm in the process of moving. After August 8th I will hopefully have more time for it...at least until I start grad school (bum bum buuuuuuuuum).

Sanctuary comic: "Will's True Purpose"

I...don't know where this came from.

Cut for length.Collapse )

Title: Portrait of an Independent Genius
Author: bad_hay
Rating: NC-17
Characters/Pairings: John Druitt/f, mentions of John Druitt/James Watson
Chapter warnings: Sex, prostitution, brief mention of sexual assault
Spoilers: Since this story chronicles John's history, I'm gonna be safe and say any flashbacks up through the most current episode are fair game.
Disclaimer: Sanctuary and its lovely characters are not mine. Montague John Druitt, the real-life cricketer, is also not mine.

Chapter summary: John didn't have to ask how William discerned the "right sort", for at that moment the coach turned onto the Haymarket and there they were--women in bright silks and tartans wearing no cover to speak of, women sitting on balconies with their legs crossed, women talking, laughing, flirting, drinking.

John blinked. William did not have adventures. Every day he woke up at the same time, had the same breakfast, walked the same route to his chambers and returned home the same way, only to do it all again in the morning. Collapse )

...Guess what?

...Why don't I have an excitement icon?

I feel like I'm picking on John a lot. The next one will be about Helen, promise!

Cut 'cuz it's a huge graphic.Collapse )
